Tik Tok Tik Tok…And There Goes Time

Time has a way of slipping away and before we know it,  it’s gone.

The concept of time and its value has been on my mind these past few days. I would watch the news and see stories from other parts of the world, stories of people trying to survive each day, stories of children experiencing war and hate , stories of different technologies advancing by the hour, stories of laws that has been changed. I would look at my calendar and realize that we’re halfway through 2017. I would look at my child and notice how much she has grown in 6 months. The world changing,  systems restructuring,  people aging…and dying,  life simply has a way of getting ahead of us.

Perhaps you’ve heard it from lectures and/or from other people that life is indeed short and so you have to make the most out of it.  YOLO, as the millenials would say.

But the question really is not “How do I get the most out of this thing called time?” Rather, “How does God wants me to handle time? ” After all He is the creator of it.

I decided to study the concept of time and what the Bible says about it. (Thanks to http://www.openbible.info) I then found a lot of verses talking about its value.

No matter what you do, you are on the road towards death just like everyone else. James 4:14 tells us that our life is but a mist that comes for a little while and then vanishes away. Though death is a reality we can’t avoid,  the Bible still teaches us how we can handle time despite its limit.

FIRST AND FOREMOST

If you do not know Christ and are not sure of what’s going to happen after you die,  this is God’s will for you–be saved.  (John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 6:2) NOW is the day of salvation.

GOD WANTS ME TO HANDLE TIME BY…

…BEING WISE

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12

If you are already a Christian, God’s will for you is to walk in this journey called life conscious of giving God the glory every moment and in every aspect. Every decision counts. Remember, you cannot turn back time so be wise.

…BEING DEPENDENT TO HIM

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps. Proverbs 16:9

You will never know what’s going to happen later,  tomorrow,  the next months and years… But God does.  So, it is only wise to commit everything to him–your plans,  your work,  your loved ones,  and He will help you make the right choices.

...TRUSTING HIM

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jeremiah 29:11

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: Ecclesiastes 3:11

To be dependent on the Lord means that you surrender everything and everyone you love to Him,  to trust Him means that you know and are assured that He will take care of you and everyone you love.

 ...BEING URGENT

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. I Thessalonians 5:1-3

Christ will be coming back soon, no one knows when so we must live each moment with urgency.  Urgency to share the Gospel, urgency to do His work in the ministry. This could be one of man’s problem: laziness. I am not excluded,  sometimes I become so busy with other things that I forget what my purpose is,  to be a light to the world.

...BEING PRODUCTIVE

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4

Christ is our ultimate example of using time wisely.

See, being productive does not necessarily mean ticking off all of your to-do list for the day. You can be so busy and yet still miss the point of redeeming the time.  The right use of time is to find the right balance in your everyday life and setting your priorities, rest is included.

...PLANNING AHEAD

Psalm 6:6-8

Here we have the 🐜 as an example.

And there goes the word,  wise. To handle time wisely, you have to plan ahead and be ready.  Yes,  we do not know what’s going to happen tomorrow but God wants us to be always ready.  A good time management skill that we all need to practice is this thing called scheduling.  I use an app on my phone where I type in all the things that needs to be scheduled: events, tasks, errands,  meal plans,  etc. I will be blogging about this separately.

With all these things in mind, how do you  actually do all that in an ever-changing world?

Abide in the unchanging Christ

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.Hebrews 13:8

Our time maybe running out but to be able to do God’s will in this short period of time which God allows us to have and enjoy is enough for us to have peace that no matter what tomorrow brings,  we know that  we have done our part to redeem time and we know God will take care of the rest.

What are some ways you can redeem time?
